2024 Detroit Region SCCA Solo School
The Detroit Region Solo School is back! This drivers school is tailored for brand new autocross drivers and those with less than two years of autocross experience, and will focus on the very basics of autocross performance driving.
There is a classroom session in the morning, that goes over the basics of how an event is run, basic solo safety information, and finally, basic performance driving concepts. The afternoon session consist of practicing the basic performance driving concepts.
Pricing for the Solo School are as follows:
- SCCA members, $95
- Non-SCCA members, $115
There is a cap of 30 students for the Solo School. Those who aren't among the first 30 to register will be placed on the wait list. If students drop out, people on the wait list will be put on the student roster in the order that they appeared on the wait list.

Solo School Schedule
Saturday Classroom and driving sessions
- Instructor Check-in: 7:00 am to 7:20 am
- Student Check-in: 7:30
- Morning Classroom session: 8 - 9:00 am
- Registration/Tech: 9:00 am
- Drivers Meeting: Immediately following Registration/Tech
- Course walk 10:00 am
- Morning Driving Sessions: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
- Afternoon Classroom Session: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
- Working Lunch: 1:00 pm (pizza and water will be provided)
- Afternoon Driving Session: 2:45 - 4:45 pm
- Wrap up: 4:45 pm
- Everyone off site by 5:30pm
We run rain or shine on Saturday, so bring appropriate clothing!
Event requirements
Solo School Requirements
Students must have a valid drivers license or learners permit. Younger students with learners permits must have a signed minor waver form, signed by both parents, in order to participate in the Solo School.
Students are limited to two driver per car maximum.
Vehicle classing will be discussed in class but will not be required for registration. Most vehicles are welcome except for trucks, SUVs, minivans, and vans. All vehicles used in the Solo School must pass the standard autocross tech inspection: battery must be secured, interior must be cleaned out, tires must have tread and be in good condition, with no play or loose components in the suspension.
Please note that we will be running, rain or shine, on Saturday, so if the weather calls for precipitation, ensure that you will be appropriately dressed for the day. All students will be required to work at least one 60 minute session in the morning and one 60 minute session in the afternoon.
