About this event
Tire Rack SCCA CAM Autocross Challenge
Are you looking for some great competition with a little spice? Yes? Well, the Tire Rack SCCA CAM Autocross Challenge is for you!
There are options galore at this multi session event. First, you can run in one of the classes listed below or, if your car isn't qualified for any of the classes below but you are still insterested in seat time, you can sign up for the Challenge Worker Index Class (CWIC).
What is the Challenge Worker Index Class (CWIC)?
The Challenge Worker Index Class is an inclusive class that welcomes competitors in all classes not eligible for the Challenges.
Anyone running the CWIC will be offered a discounted entry fee. In exchange for this benefit, CWIC competitors will work the CAM Autocross Challenge Rounds on Sunday afternoon. CWIC entrants get all of the non-Challenge competition runs (at least 8 total – 5 to 6 on Saturday (Session 1 & 2) and 3 on Sunday morning (Session 3)). The non-Challenge Round Sessions run like a typical event, with all CWIC entrants and Challenge class entrants working and running in specific heats.
All classes are welcome, with Indexed classes being created based on the number of entries. For example, Street Classes may run as a Street Index, Street Touring Classes as a Street Touring Index, Ladies Classes as a Ladies Index, etc. Classing depends on how many drivers sign up to participate in the Worker Class (so bring your friends)!
CWIC Entries will be eligible for event trophies (awarded based on the Index class) and may even be eligible for contingency. Contingency availability is dictated by the partner and is subject to all requirements: membership status (must be an annual SCCA member), class size, product use, etc.
Overall, the Challenge Worker Index Class offers a balanced arrangement where competitors can enjoy a reduced entry fee and additional seat time opportinity while also contributing to the smooth execution of the Sunday afternoon Challenges.
What are the Challenge Classes?
CAM
For 8 years, the SCCA’s Classic American Muscle has existed alone as the sport’s wildest outlet for production-based cars running on 200tw tires with few other rules aside from an all-American heritage and whatever else their builders could dream up. These muscle cars, which are so popular at the fancy auctions, have also found a home in SCCA® fulfilling their purpose – getting them out of the garage and being pushed to their limits of something other than gathering dust. Last year, the rumbling V8 engines and ground pounding American muscle of CAM was joined on the grid by some new kids in town with the cars of the Xtreme classes entering the arena. Screaming rotaries, whistling turbo four cylinders, wailing sixes, high-winding V8s, and cars from all over the world challenge the clock and the competition to see who can build the most Xtreme—and effective—autocross car out there.
Adding to the excitement this year are two Club Spec classes; a Mustang class and a Miata class.
SCCA has three classes for these types of cars – CAM C, CAM T, and CAM S.
- CAM C: With the “C" standing for Contemporary, this class sees car and truck body styles from 2001-on.
- CAM T: In this case, the “T” stands for Traditional, and this class is for car and truck body styles originating from 1948-2000.
- CAM S: The “S” stands for Sports and this class is where 2-seater cars are allowed. It is also for all cars that do not meet CAM C or CAM T weight minimums.
Xtreme Street
SCCA has three classes for these types of cars - XA, XB, and XU
- XA: This class highlights import and domestic sports sedans and coupes.
- XB: Vehicles eligible for this class are lightweight import and domestic sports cars.
- XU: This class showcases perfromance vehicles with minimal restrictions.
For specific class guidelines and classing visit the rules page.
Club Spec
New to the group for the 2024 Season are the Club Spec classes
- CSM: Look for 5th generation Mustangs(2005-2009) with the S197 chassis to run in this Club Spec Class.
- CSX: In this class, you will find 2006-2015 Mazda MX-5 Miatas.
For more information on these classes, visit the Club Spec information page.
SCCA Starting Line will be hosting a Starting Line Driver's Edge Experience in conjunction with SCCA's Tire Rack Peru CAM Autocross Challenge. This weekend-long experience is geared toward those new to National Solo events. The SCCA Starting Line Driver’s Edge uses a team of successful autocross veterans who remember what it was like the first few times they pulled up to the starting line to make a run on the big stage of national-level competition.
In short, you’ll be given the tools and an explanation of the ins and outs of a Tire Rack CAM Autocross Challenge event, arming you with the information to conquer the event without the intimidation factor that comes from doing something new. Our coaches will walk you through the event information page, talk about run/work assignments, teach you how the grid works, what to do at impound, and the information available to you at the driver’s information center.
Most importantly, our championship-level coaches will help you throughout the weekend, checking in to help answer any questions that come up, touching base in grid before your run heat, and providing support and encouragement along the way. Think of them as your big brother or big sister for the weekend!
There is NO CHARGE to take part in the Starting Line Driver's Edge Experience. If you are a driver that is new to National Solo events, we encourage you to sign up and take part!
